I found a whole book full of match book covers when I cleaned out my parents house, no idea what happened to them. Covers were an art - form. I sold matchbooks and other advertising specialties for a while in the late 70's.
That's so cool! Yes these were mostly picked up by my step-father in his travels. I've been using the matches but didn't know what to do with the empty books. It seemed a shame to toss them after he'd kept them all those years, but it seemed foolish to save them. Hence- digitizing them in case someone wants the original old art for something!! Thank you for stopping by! I have a lot of these match books and also old books, pictures, beer coasters, etc I will be posting!

DeleteI remember that couples used to give out souvenir matchbooks at their weddings too with their names and wedding date embossed on the covers.
ReplyDeleteWent to a wedding last year that did that- but they had hired a cigar rolling person who rolled cigars all night for the guests!
Deleterepresents a slow-paced time when most everybody smoked.
ReplyDeleteRight? I keep thinking about how slow life used to be!!
